If I can be a WAHM, should I?

I've had the opportunity to be a WAHM (a work at home mom) and I've also seen all three of my kids go to a day care as infants. I've done the tough commute into the city, leaving super early, and coming home as soon as possible to spend time with them. I've also had the opportunity to work from home or work remotely and also I've worked for myself from home as well.  Having run the gamut of experiences I can give my personal experience and advice to you. First of all, when I had my first child, it was after 5 yrs of deliberate thought and consideration of what I was going to lose out on by having...

Product Review: Haakaa Silicone Breast Pump

I guess I'm reviewing products with double vowels. This is Instagram viral marketing at its best. Well it wasn't viral, but I saw some posts on Instagram of this breastfeeding natural pump thing called the Haakaa. It looked like a little flower vase and moms were raving about it. I hadn't heard of it but I was so curious to try one and the price was so reasonable I ordered one to try. It is essentially a silicone container without a lid that has a cone shaped lip that allows you to suction it onto your breast without needing a pump source. By squeezing the base and placing it over your areola, it creates a suction that draws your breastmilk...

Momming by any means

Yesterday my hubs went back to work after taking paternity leave and it was my first day going back to doing everything - kids, food, school, work, and baby. Oddly enough it was a wonderful day and I was actually able to take the girls swimming AND get in a workout...How did I work out? On a recumbent bike at the gym with a baby over my shoulder! I like that phrase 'by any means' because it aptly describes the life of a mom. I know that in a negative sense it could cause you to think that one doesn't care about the process but just the goal. In my case, it's not that - it's that so much of...

Product review: Kiinde Twist Breastfeeding system

I received a Kiinde starter kit at Mommy con recently and I held onto it knowing that it might come in handy. Now that I'm breastfeeding again I had the opportunity to use the system. I was not paid for this review but I found it to be an interesting design so I wanted to share it with you. The Kiinde system is a well thought out system that comes with the dongles to be able to attach the storage bag directly to a manual or an electric breast pump without having to transfer the milk from a bottle or other storage bag. This is the main benefit of this system because typically with a different set up, you would...

A diaper bag designed by a working mom

I'm a designer and I have worked fulltime throughout motherhood. I have two degrees and have worked so hard to get to where I am today that having children was really a huge decision and a huge lifestyle change as I'm sure it might be for you! When I had my first child, it was a no-brainer that I would work, not only because I needed to but also because I just had no idea what a stay at home mother would do and I 'didn't seem myself as the SAHM type', whatever that means (LOL!). I would roll my eyes when people would suggest it is best to stay at home. Then again I was just beginning motherhood and...
